What are your published works, and what are you working on?

My first book, Free State of Dodge, a post apocalyptic dystopian novel, was released in May 2016. I published the first of my zompoc series, Zombie Lake, later that year. Zombie Island, Zombies on a Plane were the next installments and the fourth volume, Zombie Oasis, will be released soon. I am currently putting the final touches on that one, almost done with my first draft of Zombie River Run, the fifth volume. Also, I’m working on at least the next three installments. At the moment, I have plans for eleven parts in the Still Alive saga, but I will probably have seventy-five more planned by the time I get to that number.

If someone was just hearing about you for the first time what 1 thing would you want them to know?

Whenever I meet a reader in the zompoc community, I make sure to tell them my series was inspired by Mark Tufo’s Zombie Fallout. After getting into that series, I knew I had to create a first-person journal following a reluctant hero after the zombie apocalypse.

Did you always want to be a writer?

No, I have been writing, either in blogs or music and poetry or stupid short stories when I was in elementary school, but I didn’t have aspirations to do much of anything until around seven years ago.

What has been the biggest adventure of your life?

In December 2015, I went to the hospital holding over 30 pounds of water weight. I was in the advanced stages of congestive heart failure, and my cardiologist gave me “six months to two years” to live. Because of the prognosis, we rushed to release Free State of Dodge in about six months. My health has greatly improved since and that same doctor told me the time limit no longer applies. Every time I see him, I make sure to harass him about it. So you can say being alive another day is the biggest adventure of my life.

If zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow would you be prepared?

As prepared as I could be. My parents own and operate Heaven Sent Survival, a store that sells freeze-dried food, water purification, and other preparedness supplies. With freeze dried beef stew and freeze-dried ice cream bars, I think I could make it for a while.

What 3 things do you feel everyone should have to be ready for a survival situation?

Well, besides freeze-dried food and water purification, I would suggest you stock up on guns and ammo. Does that count as two things? Okay, maybe you need four items to survive.

Who would you want with you if civilized society fell apart?

Choices… Adam Corolla. Because he could keep me laughing the entire time society crumbled. Or a fat guy that I could trip up to keep the coming horde busy. Actually, I think I’ll pick some random bikini model. You know, just for fashion tips.

What 2 books would be in your bug out bag, knowing you would have to read them over and over?

If we are talking survival guides, factual books, I have to go with a couple of the Foxfire books or maybe something by James Wesley Rawles.

In fiction, I’m not sure if I could cut my library of zombie books down to just two. I couldn’t part with Mark Tufo, Shawn Chesser, Bobby Adair, Boyd Craven, or the other numerous authors that keep me entertained.

If we were thrown into the dark ages what would you miss most?

My computer. When I am not working on it, it is my social window to the world. I don’t get out much and Facebook is one of the only ways of staying contact with friends. Yes, I know that makes me sound pathetic.

What is the most surprising fact about you?

I have Friedrich’s Ataxia, a form of Muscular Dystrophy. I have been wheelchair dependent since I was thirteen. FA is the reason for my heart problems and why I got a pacemaker in 2013. The most surprising thing about that is that it has also rendered me legally blind. I actually did not start writing novels until after I started losing my site. I use Dragon NaturallySpeaking to write every word in all of my work and even in this interview. Most people find it hard to believe that I am Mo Collins, at least in personality, when they read my books.
