- What are your published works, and what are you working on?
I have published two books, Outbreak and Battleborn, in my debut series, The Brother’s Creed. I am currently working on the third book, Wolf Pack, to continue the series. I plan for there to be a total of five books and an epilogue novella.
- If someone was just hearing about you for the first time what 1 thing would you want them to know?
I would want them to know that I’m a Jesus Freak first and foremost. Also, that I’m a relatively new author that plans to be around for a long time! I not only have plans for some more post-apocalyptic series but some fantasy ones as well. Sorry, I know that was two things, but hey, I couldn’t do just one.
- Did you always want to be a writer?
I’ve always loved creative writing and have been writing stories since I was fifteen. When I was younger and even through high school I thought it would be cool to be an author but I never really thought I had it in me. But once I got married and read one of my work-in-progress stories to my wife, she loved it and pushed me to finish it. (This is going to be my first fantasy book, which needs to be rewritten and hopefully will be released in 2019) Then when we began to look for part time work to supplement our income she pushed me to pursue a career in writing. I then discovered the possibility of self-publishing, something I hadn’t even heard of before. That has led me to where I am now! (She pushed me but it wasn’t because it was something she wanted for me, it was because she could see I wanted it but was too scared to try. Thank God for a strong wife!)
- What has been the biggest adventure of your life?
Okay now you might make fun of me or call me cheesy on this one, but I have to say my marriage has been the biggest adventure of my life! You might say, “Well then you haven’t done much,” but that is far from the truth. I’ve stayed in New Zealand for 3 months, hunted brown bear in Alaska, and done a bunch of other awesome adventurous stuff. But it has been my marriage that has been the most challenging, but also, by far, the most rewarding!
- If zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow would you be prepared?
I like to think so. I mean I did write a zombie book where the main characters are heavily based off my brother and I, and they were prepared. In reality? I think I would be. I mean we live 20 miles from the nearest town with only a dozen people as neighbors (neighbors out here in Eastern Montana means anyone within a few miles). I also have a lot of guns and thousands of rounds of ammo. We could just stay here for weeks without being touched. On top of that, I have a place in Alaska where we could go to be safe and self-sufficient for years! We’d just have to get there alive! (Hint: this may or may not be the plot of a certain series I have written!)
- What 3 things do you feel everyone should have to be ready for a survival situation?
Well, a trusty firearm and plenty of ammo would be key or at least some kind of durable weapon. Good transportation would also be important, but I think the most important thing to have is an iron will and desire to survive and protect those you love. A will that no matter what you faced, be it zombie or evil person, you would do what you had to do to live and protect those around you.
- Who would you want with you if civilized society fell apart?
I would say my wife first and foremost because I mean, she is my wife. But also she is quite handy with cooking a lot of different food PLUS she is a hell of a shot and knows her way around guns! My second pick would be my brother, as he is the most dependable and capable person I could have with me. (Hint: Another thing that may or may not be present in a certain series)
- What 2 books would be in your bug out bag, knowing you would have to read them over and over?
Oh man, this is a good question. Only two books? What about a series of books? How can I just pick two? Okay, just two books… I’d have to say, Hunter by James Byron Huggins and Eragon by Christopher Paolini. Although it is a tough call and I would really like the rest of the Inheritance Trilogy. Also, pretty much anything by Brandon Sanderson would be nice, like The Way of the Kings!
- If we were thrown into the dark ages what would you miss most?
This is a good one. I would miss my computer and the ability to type up a story. My handwriting is terrible and it hurts my hands to write much anymore. I would not be able to write and that would be sad. I would also miss guns, I really like guns!
- What is the most surprising fact about you?
Hmmm… I guess I’ve always had a hopeless romantic side to me… buried deep underneath all this manliness, but it is there nonetheless!
